About Me

Hi, I’m Joshua Hernandez, APCC#19819.

Clinical Supervision is conducted by Dr. Sean Tobin, PsyD#33387, and by Donna Vibes, LCSW#108473.

If you're carrying the weight of complex trauma, persistent anxiety, or depression that never seems to quiet, or if you feel the silent toll of years spent caring for others, know that you are not alone—and you don't have to face it all by yourself.

I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced profound, layered pain, often shaped by demanding roles, cultural expectations, or unseen battles. My clients range from adolescents to elderly adults, ages 13+, and come from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds whose experiences may not always be understood or acknowledged in traditional therapy settings. Many of them have faced experiences such as sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, addiction, and neglect. Additionally, I work with those navigating transitional periods, unhealthy family dynamics, and high achievers who may appear strong on the outside but are silently carrying emotional burdens that are difficult to name.

With experience in environments focused on interpersonal healing—including church ministries, free clinics, and non-profit organizations supporting families, individuals, immigrants, and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse—I bring both clinical expertise and a deep respect for the human spirit.

My approach is rooted in compassion, clarity, and connection. Clients often express that they feel safe to be authentic with me—no masks, no pressure to perform, and no need to have everything figured out.

Healing isn't passive, and you don't have to navigate this journey alone. If you're ready to take meaningful steps toward emotional clarity, deeper connections, and a renewed sense of strength, I'm here to walk alongside you.

My Therapeutic Framework

I draw from evidence-based modalities like trauma-informed care, somatic awareness, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and narrative approaches, adapting each session to meet your unique needs and goals.

My clinical work is informed by a Catholic anthropological understanding of the human person—meaning I view every individual as inherently dignified, relational, and made for connection and flourishing. Whether or not you identify with a particular faith tradition, this perspective shapes how I honor your humanity: with deep reverence, patience, and hope.

I offer a balance of structured guidance and open exploration, allowing your story to unfold at a pace that feels right for you. Together, we will examine where you've been, where you are now, and where you long to be—creating space for both tears and laughter. Yes, there's often room for both in therapy, and I believe that humor can be a sacred part of the healing process. Whether we're focused on rebuilding trust in relationships, processing past trauma, or learning new tools to manage anxiety or depression, our work together will be practical, purposeful, and grounded in compassion.

My Story: Why I Became a Therapist

From an early age, I was surrounded by people who embodied service—family, and community members who consistently reached out to help others. Their example instilled in me a deep and lasting desire to support others in meaningful ways. Whether it was helping with a task, listening without judgment, sharing a laugh, or a tear—I found purpose in being present for others.

Over the years, I’ve become deeply drawn to understanding what makes us human—our pain, our resilience, our capacity for growth. My curiosity has always been grounded in empathy and a strong belief in taking action, as I am fascinated by what makes us who we are and how we can keep moving forward even when life knocks us down. That curiosity, mixed with my desire to help, is what led me to become a therapist.

Additionally, an experience that has shaped me in many ways was immigrating to the United States at the age of eleven. I know firsthand how tough it can be to adjust to a new culture, learn a new language, and try to find your place without losing your identity. Because of that, I bring a deep understanding and respect for the challenges many immigrants and first-generation individuals face—and I’m here to support you through them.

Moreover, supporting those who serve and protect others is both an honor and a personal mission. I hold a special place in my heart for military families, veterans, first responders, caregivers, and nurses. Your service often comes with sacrifice—visible and invisible. The weight you carry is real, and too often, it goes unspoken. I’m committed to creating a space where that weight can be acknowledged and where healing can begin.

Overall, I find myself drawn to meet and serve people in their darkest and most difficult moments, as trauma is often isolating. For those who have been through trauma—whatever your story may be—I want you to know that healing is possible. I’ve been in dark places myself. I know what it feels like to lose hope, to navigate loss, to experience confusion, isolation, hurt, and uncertainty. But I also know what it’s like to find light again and the restorative power of being truly seen and heard—through connection, through support, and through the slow, powerful process of healing.

Therapy, for me, isn’t just about fixing something—it’s about creating space for growth, for clarity, for peace. I believe we all have the capacity to heal, and I’d be honored to walk that path with you.

Wherever you are on your journey, you don’t have to go it alone.

When I’m not in session…

I enjoy spending meaningful time with my wife and friends—whether that’s exploring new coffee shops, such as a cozy corner café or a spot with a great pour-over, I'm always up for the hunt. I also enjoy trying out unique food spots and walking through local areas to discover spots with character and a great atmosphere. Additionally, I find great joy in traveling and camping, especially when it allows for time in nature and space to reflect. Recently, I’ve developed a passion for running—not because it comes naturally, but because I value the challenge and structure it brings. I also enjoy swimming in the ocean and unwinding at home by practicing and making craft cocktails or watching nature and animal documentaries. I’ve always had a strong drive to keep learning, and documentaries and hobbies are one of the ways I stay curious, engaged, and grounded with the world. These rhythms in my personal life reflect what I bring into my work: a relational approach grounded in presence, intentional action, and holistic care for the body, mind, and soul.
